Pat Robertson may not shed any light on whether or not there is a god, but he certainly proved the universe has a spec of sanity when he was soundly defeated in his bid for president (^_^)

Pat Robertson tells town, "Don't expect God to help you"
by sir82 inhttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9995578/
i thought evangelism was supposed to make god more appealing to people?
the irony is, most jws will point accusing fingers at this representative of babylon the grape, but not realize that their own message preached every saturday morning is essentially the same: "worship god our way, or don't come crying to us when armageddon comes"

I became a pan-me-ist when I realized that I am a manifestation of the whole of reality and everything I know is my own minds invention so there really is nothing but me in existance... and all of you are just aspects of me.

Is the bible just Jewish Mythology?
by MsMcDucket ini'm starting wonder about all kinds of things, lately.
just like the greeks and romans had their mythological gods, the jews did too??
the bible is just different stories told by men under the influence of what??

to Second James' sentiments, all Belief Systems [BS] are simply that BS, they are mental inventions to explain experiences to the best of our minds limited abilities.... the more we realise how little we really know the better off we are in our ability to pay attention to what is actually happening without the BS filters that cloud our view.

Do you believe in Karma? Why or why not?
by AlmostAtheist ini haven't read up on it, and my only exposure to it is a few people that say they believe in it.
correct my amateurish view of it, please.. karma is the overriding force in the universe that keeps the good/evil scales in balance.
if you do something rotten, you'll get something rotten back on you.

from my studies and experiences
karma means actions have consequences.
basically skillful gambling produces better results than wild guessing and unskillful play.
here are some examples....
say you hurt someone really bad... say ten or fifteen years ago, you dont even remember it consciously any longer....
however you go for a new job and suddenly find yourself sabotaging your own interview for no apparent reason... it could be because deep down you did not forget what you did and part of you does not believe you deserve this new job or promotion etc... and even though you cannot for the life of you see this consciously, does not mean it can't occur, and those who believe in rebirth believe this can carry over from one life to the next...
while doing relative good may not always bring you benefit,[no good deed goes unpunished] it certainly seems that experience tells us that F**king people over can bring more harmful results more than benefitting them.

So just WHO made this universe?
by onacruse inin the christian theology, "god" is the creator.
but many scriptures intimate that jesus was, at the very least, the "maker.
" there are 2 distinctly different greek words used in the bible to describe the activities of these two beings; a distinction that the wts (along with many other non-trinitological belief systems) has made.. i'd rather not argue about the meaning of these two words, as they are very clear, and hardly worth (imho) wasting the bandwidth on yet further etymological dissertations.. i recently suggested that i could see jesus as tinkering with dna, and god giving him helpful suggestions along the way.

why Adam really died?
by zen nudist insome have mentioned that it seems that god lied about the cause of adams death as adam really died of old age.
but an author of a book called the secret origins of the bible pointed out something even more astonishing..... the bible plainly tells us why adam was forbidden from living forever..... it does not say he was punished for sin [something he did], but instead it specifies that he was prevented for what he.
might do with the knowledge he obtained.... here the man has become like one of us in knowing good and bad, and now in order.

that he not put his hand out and actually take also the fruit from thelikewise the people of Babel are punished for what they WILL possibly do...
very different from the long standing notion that SIN causes DEATH.... seems more that God feared mankind's use of knowledge and cooperation more than he hated the sins already committed.

there is hardly one story in the bible which is radically different from other older myths.

Ghost, Spirits and the Dead
by free2beme ini always had a hard time as a witness, accepting their view on death.
i actually think they offer a sad view on death that leaves an empty and depressing view for those left behind.
i remember the comments, "they are asleep now," all so well.

those who believe they are nothing but meat machines forget that the mystery of consciousness has never been solved by anyone and are thinking backwards as to what is factual.
it is a FACT that we conscious as anyone reading this need not test for themselves as they know it beyond doubt, however it is NOT a fact that anything you are conscious about represents anything real at all. your body, your brain, your world may all be just dream elements without basis in any reality other than your own imagination... to say when do you get this spirit is backwards, its really when did you get this body within your self as the only body you know is just a representation of any real body that may exist.

What if they're right after all?

christendom's beliefs are deemed strange by many people but what if they are right?

WHAT IF
IF ONLY
thoughts that mostly drive people nuts rather than help them in any noticable way....
what if muslims are right, buddhists, siks[?] rastaferians jews, hindus, jains, atheists.... on and on it can go...
but how can trust a god who damns those who honestly saw no reason to believe and honestly lived as best they could with what they understood and learned?
who can trust a god who judges people by a standard he eternally knew to be false to reality? he created a ruler which was arbitrary and compared to to a universe he foreknew to be incompatible and that is our fault?
